Cokatoo

Angel is a wild caught Moluccan cockatoo (Cacatua moluccensis) of unknown age.  Being captured out of the wild for the pet trade, he was understandably terrified and aggressive toward humans for many years, which led him to being surrendered to Noah’s Ark.  Upon arrival he was bare chested, as the stress of his capture and life behind bars nearly drove him insane and he pulled most of his chest feathers out with his beak.  Today he is happy, healthy, fully feathered and as free as he can safely be, and loves flying around the aviary with his other cockatoo friends.  He also has learned that humans can be kind, and even lets his keepers pet and handle him.  This large parrot is native to the south Moluccas in eastern Indonesia and is considered a vulnerable species due to illegal trapping for the pet trade and habitat destruction.  The moluccan cockatoo is considered to be one of the most difficult and demanding pet birds to own because of their large size, high intelligence, need to chew and potential noise level.
